From 48 Votes to 45 Years

If you had stood on Mainstreet in the spring of 1981, you would have seen a very different Parker. It was a quiet community covering just one square mile and home to only 285 residents. Determined to preserve their unique identity, local citizens went to the polls and narrowly approved incorporation by a vote of 48 in favor and 38 opposed. On May 5, 1981, the Town of Parker was officially born.

Fast forward 45 years to 2026, and that small frontier community has grown into one of Colorado's premier places to live, with more than 72,000 residents. This year, Parker celebrates its 45th anniversary alongside two other historic milestones: the 250th anniversary of the United States and the 150th anniversary of Colorado statehood.

These anniversaries celebrate a shared legacy of perseverance, growth, and community.

Long before Parker officially incorporated—or Colorado became the 38th state in 1876—the area already played an important role in Colorado history. The historic 20-Mile House served as a vital stop for travelers along the Cherokee Trail, helping shape the pioneering spirit that still defines Parker today.

Today, Parker reflects the remarkable growth of both Colorado and the nation while maintaining the welcoming, small-town character that residents cherish. Throughout the year, Parker is celebrating with a nostalgic "Back to Our Roots" theme.

Ask longtime residents what makes Parker special, and they likely won't mention population numbers or new development. They'll talk about the feeling of community.

Modern Parker combines outstanding amenities like the PACE Center, miles of scenic trails along the Cherry Creek Trail, expansive parks and open spaces, and the vibrant Farmers Market, where neighbors continue the tradition of gathering together every week.

Forty-five years ago, a small group of citizens believed Parker was worth protecting.

Today, those 48 votes continue to shape one of Colorado's most remarkable communities.

As we celebrate these historic anniversaries, we're reminded of our shared story—a story built on resilience, community, and an enduring love for the place we call home.
